Our History
The Logos Fellowship has come about as the result of a long and interesting journey. We should start at the beginning.
Decades ago, a group of people were in fellowship together as St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (An LCMC affiliated church). It went through periods of growth and decline, and in the 1980’s found itself in a difficult financial situation, in a building it owned on Maple Street in Hayden. Unable to meet its financial obligations, it entered a partnership with Faith Presbyterian in the building, a member church of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA). The two churches maintained their separate doctrine and practice, while jointly maintaining the facility.
The relationship continued for several decades. When St. Mark’s was faced with a leadership change, it looked for greater focus on bible exposition with a disciple-making objective. In 2016 a change was made in pastoral leadership, and it became apparent that the affiliation with the LCMC was no longer in alignment with the mission and beliefs of those attending. Through much prayer, study and discussion, St. Mark’s Lutheran was disbanded, and Maple Street Community Church (MSCC) was launched.
The journey continued, with both MSCC and Faith Presbyterian pursuing their separate ministries, MSCC was in need of its own space, while Faith Presbyterian was facing a decline in attendance. As a result, the decision was made jointly to sell the facility, allowing both churches to follow the Lord’s leading separately. The building was sold to Real Life Ministries in March of 2024.
Given that MSCC would be occupying a new facility, and given that its name was address-specific, there was a need to re-identify itself. And so, The Logos Fellowship was created. The change has provided an opportunity to gain greater clarity in our mission and approach to ministry, some of which is available now on this site, and in our various materials. More importantly, we hope it will be self-evident in our fellowship and service. We welcome the opportunity to familiarize you with it in the near future.
The Logos Fellowship was chosen as our new name because of the significance of the term “logos”. It comes from the Greek term used by the apostle John when he declared Jesus the “Word” (John 1:1). The Greek term “logos”, means “word” or “sum of all wisdom”. John made it clear he’s referring to Jesus by that designation when he says a few verse later in 1:14, “the Word became flesh…”. The “Word”, Jesus, the logos, is the essential focus of our church!
And, Jesus also used the term to refer to his “word”, his teaching, stating, “if you continue in My word (logos), then you are truly disciples of Mine.” (John 8:31) Thus, our chosen name, “The Logos Fellowship”, reflects the centrality of Christ in our ministry, and the primacy given to the Word of God in all that we do.
